Indiana University men's basketball coach Darian DeVries met with reporters on Tuesday afternoon to break down his team's undefeated performance at the FISU America Games in Lima, Peru. The Hoosiers returned home with a 4-0 record, a result DeVries called a valuable building block for the upcoming season.

DeVries highlighted the unique challenges of the international competition, noting that the team faced different styles of play and had to adapt quickly without a full practice schedule. "It was a great experience for our guys," DeVries said. "You're playing against grown men in some cases, and the physicality was a real test. We had to rely on our defensive principles and make smart decisions under pressure."

The coach pointed to the team's resilience as a key takeaway. In tight moments, the Hoosiers maintained composure and executed down the stretch. DeVries also praised the leadership from veteran players who helped younger teammates navigate the unfamiliar environment. "We saw some real growth in terms of chemistry and trust," he added.

While the FISU America Games do not count toward the regular season record, DeVries emphasized that the experience will pay dividends when conference play begins. The team is now back in Bloomington preparing for the official start of practice.
