With the World Cup drawing massive crowds to the Los Angeles area, transportation officials are strongly urging fans to leave their cars at home and use public transit to reach matches and official watch parties. The call comes as authorities brace for severe gridlock around Inglewood, home to SoFi Stadium, which will host several tournament games.
Keenan Willard reports for the NBC4 News at 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 11, 2026, that the expected surge in visitors will put unprecedented pressure on local roads. "We are looking at some of the heaviest traffic this region has ever seen," Willard noted. "Officials are begging people to plan ahead."
The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority has expanded service on the Metro K Line and added extra buses to shuttle fans from park-and-ride lots directly to the stadium zone. Special express routes will run from Union Station and key hubs across the South Bay. For those attending official FIFA fan festivals or public viewing parties in downtown L.A., similar transit options are being promoted.
Parking near SoFi Stadium is extremely limited, and many lots are reserved for VIPs and team staff. Authorities warn that drivers without pre-purchased parking passes will likely be turned away. Rideshare drop-off zones have also been relocated to reduce congestion.
Fans are advised to download transit apps, buy fare passes in advance, and allow extra travel time. With temperatures expected to climb, officials also recommend carrying water and sunscreen for any outdoor waiting periods. The message is clear: if you are heading to the game or a watch party, the train or bus is the way to go.
