Microsoft has clarified that upcoming titles Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution will remain exclusive to Xbox and PC with no timed release window for other platforms. In a recent statement, Xbox leadership emphasized that these games "are not timed" exclusives, meaning they will not follow the pattern of some previous Xbox titles that eventually launched on PlayStation or Nintendo systems.
The clarification comes amid ongoing speculation about Microsoft's multiplatform strategy. Earlier this year, the company confirmed that four previously announced games would be released on rival consoles, including Pentiment, Hi-Fi Rush, Grounded, and Sea of Thieves. However, Xbox has now drawn a firm line for its major upcoming franchises. A spokesperson stated that the previously announced multiplatform releases will proceed as planned, but no further titles are being considered for porting at this time.
Gears of War: E-Day, a prequel to the original trilogy, and Clockwork Revolution, a steampunk-themed first-person shooter from inXile Entertainment, are both expected to launch exclusively on Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC. This move signals Microsoft's commitment to using its biggest intellectual properties to drive hardware and Game Pass subscriptions, rather than chasing short-term revenue from competitor platforms. The decision may disappoint some PlayStation owners hoping to play these titles, but it reinforces Xbox's long-term strategy of platform differentiation.
