The Averitt Center has creatively merged the worlds of video gaming and art in its summer camp, titled Gaming & Art: Turning Video Games into Crafts. This innovative program invites young campers to step away from their game controllers and immerse themselves in the artistic process inspired by popular video game characters and narratives, such as Mario and Minecraft.
Throughout the week, participants are encouraged to channel their favorite gaming inspirations into various art projects, utilizing materials like paint, clay, and colored pencils. Under the guidance of lead instructor Cheyenne Smith, along with assistant Guarionex Cruz, campers are exploring their creativity and developing new skills.
The camp not only fosters artistic expression but also encourages collaboration and teamwork among the young artists. As they work on their projects, campers are discovering the joy of transforming their digital passions into tangible creations, making this summer a memorable experience filled with creativity and fun.
