'Bringing more fun': Local video game store leveling up with new retro arcade

A local video game shop is expanding its offerings with a new retro arcade, aiming to create a destination for gamers of all ages. Planet Retro Video Games and Retroware Arcade, a combined retail and entertainment space, is set to open this summer. The venue will feature more than 30 classic arcade cabinets, giving visitors a chance to play vintage titles in a dedicated gaming lounge.

The owner described the project as a way to bring more fun to the community. Instead of just selling games, the store will now offer a place where people can actually play them together. The arcade section will include a mix of fighting games, shooters, and puzzle machines from the 1980s and 1990s. Some cabinets will be set to free play, while others will use a token system to keep the old-school feel.

Planet Retro already carries a wide selection of used games, consoles, and collectibles. The new arcade will sit next to the retail floor, creating a seamless experience for customers. The owner hopes the space will attract both nostalgic adults and younger players curious about gaming history. With the rise of digital downloads, physical stores have had to adapt. This arcade addition is a bet on in-person social gaming making a comeback. The grand opening is planned for late June, with a soft launch expected a few weeks earlier.
