Nintendo has officially confirmed that a full remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is on the way, with a planned release window in 2026. The announcement came through a brief teaser trailer released by Nintendo of America, though the footage offered no actual gameplay or in-engine visuals.
The teaser, which runs just under a minute, focuses on atmospheric shots of familiar locations like the Lost Woods and Hyrule Field, set to a re-orchestrated version of the game's iconic title theme. It ends with the Triforce emblem fading into the year 2026. Fans hoping for a look at updated combat or dungeon exploration will have to wait longer.
This marks the first time Nintendo has revisited Ocarina of Time for a ground-up remake. The game previously received a remastered port for the Nintendo 3DS in 2011, which updated textures and added a few quality-of-life features, but kept the original geometry and controls largely intact. The 2026 project is expected to be a more substantial overhaul, built for the Switch's successor console, which has not yet been formally announced.
Industry speculation suggests the remake is being developed by a team that worked on the recent Link's Awakening remake, known for its toy-like art style. However, Nintendo has not confirmed the developer or the visual direction. The teaser deliberately avoids showing any character models or combat, leaving the door open for a major stylistic shift.
Ocarina of Time is widely considered one of the greatest video games ever made. It pioneered 3D action-adventure design and set the template for the Zelda series for over a decade. A full remake in 2026 would arrive nearly 28 years after the original's 1998 launch on the Nintendo 64.
Nintendo has not yet announced a specific release date or a title for the remake. More details are expected during a future Nintendo Direct presentation.
