Sony has disabled comments on its official PlayStation YouTube channel, following a wave of backlash from fans demanding the company commit to physical game releases. The move came after several recent trailers and announcements were flooded with messages criticizing the publisher's push toward digital-only content.
The controversy began when PlayStation showcased upcoming titles without confirming physical editions. Fans, many of whom collect disc-based games or worry about long-term ownership, took to the comments section to voice their frustration. Phrases like "no physical, no buy" and "keep games tangible" became common under nearly every new video. The volume of these responses grew so loud that Sony apparently decided to shut down the conversation entirely.
No game is safe from the physical game supporters in PlayStation's comments section. Even trailers for major exclusives or third-party partnerships were met with demands for disc-based versions. Some users pointed out that Sony has been gradually reducing physical releases, especially for smaller titles and VR games. Others noted that competitors like Nintendo and Xbox still offer robust physical options for most of their library.
By turning off comments, Sony avoided an ongoing public argument, but the move also silenced fans who had legitimate questions about game preservation and regional pricing. For now, the PlayStation YouTube channel remains a one-way broadcast medium. Whether this will calm the debate or simply push it to other platforms remains to be seen.
