Tucked between the major presentations from Sony and Microsoft, the Future Games Show carved out its own space this week by delivering a solid lineup of upcoming titles. While it lacked the blockbuster bombshells of a traditional E3 press conference, the showcase offered a deep dive into several promising projects. Here are the five games that generated the most buzz.
First up was "EXODUS," the highly anticipated sci-fi RPG from Archetype Entertainment, a studio founded by former BioWare veterans. The extended gameplay trailer showed off a universe where your choices ripple across generations. Players will control a family line of "Travelers," with decisions made by one ancestor directly affecting the world and story for their descendants. The visual fidelity and the weight of its narrative premise made it the clear highlight of the show.
Next, "Soulmask" caught attention with its unique survival mechanics. Instead of just building a base, players can recruit and control NPC tribespeople, each with their own skills and personalities. The game blends open-world exploration with a deep crafting system, but the twist is that you can actually possess any member of your tribe, using their specific abilities to solve puzzles or fight. It felt like a fresh take on a crowded genre.
Third on the list was "The Alters," a new game from the developers of "This War of Mine." It presents a sci-fi scenario where you are stranded on a hostile planet and must create alternate versions of yourself from different life choices to survive. Each "alter" has a different skill set and personality, leading to tense internal conflicts and cooperation. The psychological drama was a standout among the action-heavy trailers.
The fourth spot goes to "Hyper Light Breaker," the 3D roguelike follow-up to the cult hit "Hyper Light Drifter." The gameplay showed fast-paced, co-op combat in a procedurally generated open world. While it trades the original's pixel art for a cel-shaded 3D look, the fluid movement and vibrant color palette remain intact. It promises a more complex combat system with parries, dashes, and a variety of weapons.
Finally, "Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl" made a brief but impactful appearance. The new trailer focused on the oppressive atmosphere of the Exclusion Zone, showcasing terrifying new mutants and the game's signature A-Life simulation system, which makes the world feel alive and unpredictable. The sheer tension of its survival horror elements reminded everyone why this series remains a benchmark for the genre.
