SHREVEPORT, La. - A summer camp focused on video game design is celebrating a decade of teaching teenagers the craft. LaPixel Academy, hosted at LSU Shreveport, recently marked its 10th anniversary by welcoming a new group of young creators. Director Allen Garcie reflected on the milestone, noting that watching students grow from beginners into confident designers has been the most rewarding part of the journey.
The camp offers hands-on training in game development, covering everything from basic programming to character art and storytelling. Garcie said many former campers have gone on to study computer science or digital media in college, and some have even landed jobs in the gaming industry. He emphasized that the goal is not just to teach technical skills but to help students think critically and work as a team.
Over the past decade, LaPixel has adapted to changes in technology and gaming trends. What started as a small local program now draws students from across the region. Garcie hopes the camp will continue to inspire the next generation of designers for another ten years. For now, the focus remains on giving teenagers a space to explore their creativity and turn their passion for games into real-world experience.
