With Bungie announcing that Destiny is getting its final update, many players are wondering where to turn next. The live-service shooter has defined a decade of cooperative sci-fi action, but its sunset does not mean the end of the road. Several other titles capture the same blend of gunplay, loot, and shared-world adventure. Here are five strong alternatives.
First on the list is Warframe. This free-to-play game has been running even longer than Destiny and offers a dizzying amount of content. You play as a Tenno, a warrior piloting a biomechanical suit with unique abilities. The movement is faster and more acrobatic, but the loop of grinding for blueprints, mods, and new warframes feels very familiar. It is a deep rabbit hole for anyone who loves buildcrafting.
For those who prefer a more grounded sci-fi setting, The Division 2 is a solid choice. Set in a post-pandemic Washington D.C., it trades space magic for realistic gunplay and tactical cover systems. The endgame is robust, with strongholds, raids, and a Dark Zone that offers player-versus-player tension. The loot system is just as addictive, and the world is dense with secrets.
If you want a pure first-person shooter with a focus on cooperative raids, look at Deep Rock Galactic. You play as a dwarf miner on an alien planet, fighting swarms of bugs while digging for resources. The class system is tight, and each mission feels chaotic and rewarding. It lacks the narrative weight of Destiny but makes up for it with humor and teamwork.
Borderlands 3 offers a different flavor: a looter-shooter with a cel-shaded art style and a ton of humor. The gun variety is unmatched, with millions of possible weapon combinations. The story is silly, but the gameplay loop of killing bosses for legendary drops is pure satisfaction. It is best played with friends.
Finally, Remnant 2 blends third-person shooting with soulslike difficulty. The worlds are procedurally generated, and the boss fights require careful observation and teamwork. The loot is tied to secrets and puzzles, making every playthrough unique. It is a darker, more challenging experience, but it scratches the same itch for cooperative progression.
Each of these games offers a different take on the Destiny formula. Whether you want faster movement, deeper builds, or just more guns, there is something here to keep the fire alive.
