A forgotten arcade fighter from 1989 has finally been resurrected for today's consoles, arriving with a significant technical overhaul. The game, originally released for the Sega Genesis and arcade cabinets, was a cult hit that blended fast-paced combat with a unique visual style. Now, after more than three decades, it is available for download on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
The new version is not a simple emulation. Developers have rebuilt the core engine to run at a smooth 60 frames per second, a massive improvement over the original's choppier performance. All character sprites and backgrounds have been upscaled to high definition, while the original soundtrack has been remastered. The game also includes online multiplayer for the first time, allowing players to challenge opponents across the globe. A new training mode and a gallery of concept art round out the package.
Fans of the original will recognize the same frantic combat system and roster of bizarre characters. The game was known for its aggressive AI and tight hit detection, which made it a favorite in arcades but also a tough sell in the home market. The publisher has stated that this re-release is a direct response to years of fan requests on social media and forums. The price is set at $19.99, and a physical edition is planned for later this year.
